The Final Touch

dissertationsJust as it might not be easy to push yourself to stop, it might be difficult to know when to stop. You might be facing periods in which you will consider that your paper is not good enough and want to revise it repeatedly. Take a deep breath, consult with your tutor and start shaping the final chapters: the abstract and the introduction. Those two small essays are the summary of your goal, your thoughts, ideas, and findings.

With the final tweaks, you will also have to build up the reference list, the appendices, and the content page. The steps that conclude and sum up the dissertation will allow you to break from the center of the work, take a little distance and judge it with different eyes.

Dissertations are a checkpoint for different abilities. You will be judged for the capacity to analyse and report the research. The acquaintance of this skill is more important than your ability to answer all the questions or solve all the problems in the world.

Devote a little time to final check the document, proof-read it, add the diacritics, and make sure everything looks neat. The better presentation you will have, the easier will be for the tutor and examiners to follow your presentation and judge your dissertation with objectivity.

Many universities emphasize on the abilities a student gains while writing the paper, rather than the final product. It is a journey, not a destination. In this case, the process and the aptitudes are much more appreciated than the paper itself or the ideas it states. Good tutors will observe the mindset change of the student as he is passing through the bibliographical references. The whole purpose of writing a dissertation is not the paper itself, but the set of abilities a student gains and can access and improve throughout its life.
